Enugu, February 16, 2026 – IMT Convocation graduates 28,848 students after 8-year backlog; digitised records, One Diploma–One Skill policy, and ₦12.95bn tech partnership announced.
The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) is set to graduate 28,848 students at its consolidated 43rd to 50th convocation ceremony, clearing an eight-year backlog. The Rector, Gozie Ogbodo, made the announcement during a pre-convocation press conference and Art, Science and Technology Exhibition in Enugu.
The Convocation Lecture is scheduled for Friday, 20th, with the main ceremony holding on Saturday, 21st.
“This consolidated convocation represents more than a ceremony; it reflects institutional recovery, stability, and renewed direction,” Prof. Ogbodo said. “We are celebrating 28,848 graduands while affirming that IMT has regained its academic rhythm.”

Digitisation and Governance Reforms
The Rector disclosed that IMT has digitised all students’ academic records, a reform aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and data integrity. He emphasized that strengthened internal processes and regular engagement with staff unions and students have sustained industrial harmony, contributing to what he calls the emergence of a “New IMT.”
One Diploma – One Skill Policy
To boost graduate employability, IMT has adopted a “One Diploma – One Skill” policy, ensuring every graduating student leaves with at least one practical, income-generating competency.
“Beyond certificates, our priority is competence,” Ogbodo said. “Every diploma must translate into a skill that empowers our graduates to be self-reliant and globally competitive.”

₦12.95bn Tech Manufacturing Partnership
A major highlight of the briefing was the announcement of a ₦12.95 billion strategic partnership with Arone Technology to establish Nigeria’s first world-class tech manufacturing plant within the institution.
The project is expected to produce solar energy systems, drones, and AI servers, while creating up to 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“This partnership aligns technical education with real-sector productivity,” Ogbodo stated. “IMT is positioning itself not only as a centre of learning but as a catalyst for industrial and technological transformation.”
HND–B.Sc. Top-Up Programme
The Rector further revealed that IMT has concluded arrangements to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Cross River State University for a one-year Top-Up Degree Programme, enabling Higher National Diploma (HND) holders to obtain Bachelor of Science degrees.
“This initiative bridges the long-standing gap between HND and B.Sc. qualifications while expanding professional and postgraduate opportunities for our graduates,” he said.
Infrastructure and Innovation
IMT has also undertaken significant campus renewal, including renovated lecture halls and laboratories, upgraded workshop facilities, improved campus security, and enhanced power and water systems.
The ongoing Art, Science and Technology Exhibition showcases students’ innovations, research outputs, technological prototypes, and artistic creations, reflecting the institution’s commitment to entrepreneurship, practical learning, and digital integration.
“IMT is undergoing purposeful transformation,” the Rector said. “We are consolidating our heritage while boldly charting a new future anchored on innovation, strategic partnerships, academic excellence, and responsible governance.”
With 28,848 graduands, digitised records, a skills-driven policy, and a multi-billion-naira technology partnership, the upcoming IMT Convocation signals a decisive phase in the institution’s evolution.
