Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has inaugurated the distribution of 54,600 bags of rice to cushion hardship among vulnerable residents ahead of the forthcoming Ramadan fast.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Kano by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa.

Yusuf described the intervention as an annual initiative designed to provide relief and support to residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to him, the distribution will cut across the 44 local government areas of the state and other designated beneficiaries.

He said a total of 91 trucks of rice, equivalent to 54,600 bags of 50kg each, would be distributed under the programme.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, commended the governor for the initiative, noting that it would help ease hardship and reduce anxiety among residents during the fasting period.

The rice distribution forms part of the state government’s social support measures aimed at mitigating economic pressures on low-income households during religious observances.
