The Police Command in Enugu State has detained 52 suspects, recovered firearms, ammunition and stolen vehicles, and rescued three kidnapped victims during sustained security operations carried out between January 24 and January 30.

The development was disclosed in the Command’s weekly crime statistics released on Saturday in Enugu by its spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

According to Ndukwe, those currently in custody include three armed robbery suspects, 12 kidnapping suspects and three persons linked to homicide-related offences.

He added that the police also arrested two suspects in connection with rape and defilement cases, four suspected cultists, and 28 other suspects involved in various criminal activities across different parts of the state.

“The command further recovered one firearm, 20 rounds of ammunition of different calibres and six stolen vehicles during the period under review,” Ndukwe said.

He disclosed that three kidnapped victims were successfully rescued through intelligence-led operations carried out by police operatives.

Other items recovered during the operations included hard drugs and a significant quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, underscoring the Command’s intensified crackdown on drug-related crimes.

Ndukwe attributed the successes recorded to the dedication of police personnel, improved intelligence gathering and effective collaboration with other security agencies and members of the public.

He reassured residents of the Command’s resolve to sustain aggressive crime-fighting efforts and ensure the safety of lives and property across Enugu State.

The police spokesperson urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid proactive policing and swift response to criminal activities.
