A prominent political figure in Sokoto State, Senator Abubakar Gada, has formally returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after dumping the All Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

Gada announced his decision at the end of a consultative meeting held in Sokoto on Monday, explaining that the move was driven by the need to “reclaim and rebuild” the PDP in the state.

The former lawmaker, who represented Sokoto East Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011 on the platform of the PDP, joined the ADC coalition in 2025 and emerged as one of its leading stalwarts in the state.

“I played a leading and instrumental role in the conception, promotion and stabilisation of the ADC coalition movement in Sokoto State,” Gada said.

According to him, he invested significant time, energy and political capital in building what was intended to be a credible political alternative, leveraging modern communication tools and social media to expand awareness and participation.

Gada noted that part of his efforts included facilitating the visit of the Northwest coalition representative, Nasir El-Rufai, to Sokoto State to engage political stakeholders across party lines.

However, he said unfolding events and prevailing political realities exposed deep structural and leadership weaknesses within the ADC coalition.

“These include weak internal cohesion, absence of strategic clarity and a noticeable lack of commitment at critical leadership levels,” he said.

Gada explained that following extensive consultations with political allies, grassroots leaders and other stakeholders, he resolved to withdraw from the ADC coalition.

“I now formally align with the PDP, a platform I consider more structured, credible and people-oriented for advancing the collective aspirations of Sokoto State,” he said.

He added that his return to the PDP was the outcome of statewide town hall engagements, grassroots consultations and high-level political interactions aimed at strengthening unity, coordination and public confidence in the party.

Reaffirming his political philosophy, Gada pledged continued commitment to inclusive leadership, grassroots empowerment and constructive political engagement in Sokoto State.

He assured supporters that he would remain steadfast in pursuing good governance, unity, sustainable development and shared prosperity.

Speaking on behalf of participants at the meeting, Alhaji Hamza Gatawa, Hajiya Maryam Gade and Alhaji Tambari Tambuwal commended Gada’s decision, describing it as a courageous step toward strengthening a viable political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
