The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has cautioned asthmatic patients and individuals with respiratory ailments to be vigilant as Dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere across many parts of the country.

The warning was contained in NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, where the agency advised the public to take necessary health and safety precautions due to prevailing dusty conditions.

According to NiMet, reduced visibility and airborne Dust particles could pose health risks, particularly to people with asthma and other breathing-related conditions.

The agency also advised motorists to drive with caution during rainfall, noting that weather conditions could impair visibility and road safety.

Airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to aid effective operational planning.

NiMet encouraged residents to stay updated through official weather advisories to reduce exposure to potential risks associated with the current Dust conditions.

Forecasts from Monday to Wednesday indicate hazy and sunny weather across most parts of the country.

The agency predicted sunny and hazy skies over the North-Central region throughout the forecast period.

In the southern region, NiMet anticipated generally sunny conditions with a few cloud patches, alongside prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms.

Light rainfall is expected over parts of Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states later in the day.

For Tuesday, NiMet forecast moderate Dust haze over parts of Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states, while other northern areas are expected to experience slight Dust haze.

The southern region is expected to experience sunny skies with isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

By Wednesday, the agency warned of thick Dust haze over the northern region, with moderate haze anticipated across the central states.

NiMet projected sunny conditions with few cloud patches over the southern region, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rains over Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

The agency reiterated the need for vulnerable individuals to limit outdoor exposure and adhere strictly to health advisories as the Dust conditions persist.
