President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held separate Meetings with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the State House, Abuja.
The consultations, which took place behind closed doors in the President’s office, form part of a series of engagements between Tinubu and governors across party lines.
Makinde arrived shortly after Mutfwang and went straight into the President’s office. Speaking to journalists after his meeting, the Oyo governor said Nigeria’s complex challenges demand cooperation that cuts across political affiliations.
According to him, certain national issues require bipartisan engagement rather than isolated party positions, stressing that progress depends on collective input in the overall interest of the country.
“These are situations where you need everybody on board and focus on what is best for Nigeria,” Makinde said.
The Meetings come against the backdrop of intensified political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde is a leading figure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and remains one of the opposition governors in the country.
Mutfwang, who was also elected on the PDP platform, declined to speak with journalists after his meeting with the President.
In recent months, Tinubu has sustained engagements with governors from different political parties at the Presidential Villa, reinforcing inter-party dialogue on governance and national stability.
