A raging fire has destroyed the upper floor of a one-storey commercial building housing computer dealers at Computer Village, Lagos State.

The incident was confirmed by Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) through its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to him, distress alerts were received at about 1:55 a.m. through the 767/112 toll-free emergency lines, prompting the immediate activation of the state’s Emergency Response Plan from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

“Upon arrival at about 2:15 a.m., responders encountered active flames and heavy smoke engulfing the upper floor of a one-storey commercial building primarily used for the storage and sale of computers and accessories,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu explained that the high volume of combustible materials in the building accelerated the spread of the fire.

He noted that the cause of the fire was yet to be determined and remained under investigation.

“No life was lost in the incident. However, one firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS),” he added.

He disclosed that the entire upper floor of the building was completely destroyed, with goods and property worth millions of naira lost, while the structure had been partially compromised and would require urgent integrity assessment.

The LASEMA boss said the area was cordoned off to ensure public safety, adding that prompt intervention prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings.

He confirmed that the fire had been fully extinguished, while damping-down operations were ongoing to eliminate residual heat and prevent re-ignition.

Oke-Osanyintolu urged operators of commercial facilities to comply strictly with fire safety regulations and proper storage practices to prevent similar incidents.

Emergency response agencies at the scene included LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the Nigeria Police Force.
