The Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, has formally taken over the prosecution of the alleged murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, pledging firm and transparent justice.

The tragic incident, which occurred on January 17, 2026, threw Kano State into shock after Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children were allegedly killed by three principal suspects currently in police custody.

Briefing journalists in Kano on Monday, Kabiru-Maude said the takeover followed a directive from Abba Kabir Yusuf, stressing that the government would not treat the case lightly.

“The Ministry of Justice has assumed responsibility for prosecuting this case to ensure justice is served. This heinous and inhuman act is a grave affront to humanity and the rule of law,” he said.

He assured residents that the prosecution would be handled with accountability, transparency and strict adherence to due process, adding that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done.

The Attorney-General commended the Kano State Police Command for its swift and professional response, which led to the arrest of the suspects shortly after the incident.

He urged residents of Kano State to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, and to continue supporting security agencies with credible information to aid investigations.

Kabiru-Maude added that the Ministry of Justice would issue further updates as investigation and prosecution of the murder case progressed.
