President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for winning the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following their victory over Egypt in Saturday’s third-place match in Rabat, Morocco.
The President praised the Nigerian national team for their resilience and mental strength, especially after suffering a painful semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco earlier in the tournament.
Nigeria secured the bronze medal after overpowering seven-time African champions Egypt in a match that ended in a penalty shootout, following regulation time in which the Super Eagles showed dominance and tactical discipline.
Reacting to the outcome, President Tinubu said the team’s performance reflected the determination, persistence, and never-give-up spirit that define Nigeria on the global stage.
“Despite their impressive run in the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi-final match to Morocco on penalties last Wednesday, and the hopes of our people for the title were dashed,” the President said.
He added, “However, our players remained undaunted. By exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.”
President Tinubu noted that Nigerians would take pride in watching the Super Eagles receive their hard-earned bronze medals on Sunday in Rabat, stressing that the achievement deserved national celebration.
“We will all be proud of them as they receive their medals. Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold,” the President stated.
The message was conveyed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, reaffirming the administration’s support for Nigerian sports and the Super Eagles as a unifying national symbol.
