A tragic crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has resulted in the death of two people following a lone road accident in Ogun State.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the incident on Friday through its spokesperson, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

According to Akinbiyi, the crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. around Oremeji Bus Stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The accident involved a Mazda commercial bus with registration number YNF 414 XN.

He explained that the two occupants of the vehicle – the driver and the conductor, both adult males – died instantly at the scene of the crash, while no other injuries were recorded.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the bus lost control due to excessive speed, hit a road barrier, and somersaulted, leading to the fatal crash.

Akinbiyi further disclosed that the vehicle, which was conveying live chicks, was towed away by the Ibafo Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The remains of the victims were deposited at the Divine Touch Hospital morgue in Ibafo by operatives of TRACE, the police, and the Ogun State Emergency Services (OGSAES).

He noted that traffic flow along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was briefly disrupted during rescue and evacuation operations but was later restored through the joint efforts of TRACE officials and the police.
