A tragic well accident has claimed the life of a two-year-old boy, Sa’idu Ahmad, in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi. According to him, the toddler drowned after falling into a well on Wednesday afternoon.

Abdullahi explained that the Fire Service received an emergency call at about 12:15 p.m. from the Deputy Director of the service, Rabiu Garba, reporting that a young boy had fallen into a well.

“Upon receiving the distress call, our rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene,” he said.

The victim was rescued from the well unconscious and later handed over to Umar Shehu of the Madobi Police Division. Abdullahi added that the cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

In a related development, another fatal well incident was recorded the same day in Karofawa Yan Kifi Village, Ghari Local Government Area of the state.

Abdullahi disclosed that a 28-year-old man, Suleiman Sani, also fell into a well on Wednesday evening. He said a distress call was received at the Ghari Fire Station, prompting the immediate deployment of rescue personnel.

“Our rescue team mobilised quickly to the scene. The victim was pulled out of the well unconscious and was later confirmed dead by his parents,” Abdullahi stated.

The deceased was subsequently handed over to the Village Head of Karofawa, Alhaji Musa Aliyu, while investigations into the cause of the well incident continue.

The Kano State Fire Service extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and urged members of the public to ensure that wells are properly covered to prevent similar tragic occurrences.
