Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has flagged off APC membership e-registration, setting a target of enrolling at least two million members across the state.
The flag-off ceremony took place on Thursday at Owo in Nkanu East Local Government Area, where the governor described the exercise as a turning point in Enugu’s political direction and alignment with the centre.
Mbah said the era of fragmented politics, which he noted had denied Enugu its fair share of federal opportunities, was over.
“It was barely two and a half months ago we chose partnership and progress. The time of fragmented politics is over.
“We no longer want to be on the sidelines. We want to be at the centre and play dominant politics,” he said.
The governor stressed that political relevance at the national level depended on measurable support, insisting that Enugu must reposition itself to attract equitable federal attention.
“We cannot give five percent and expect the same treatment as those who gave 95 percent. We have a duty to change that,” Mbah stated.
He explained that the e-registration drive was not about personal ambition or government machinery but a total political movement that must reach every household in the state.
“This movement is not about Peter Mbah or government. It is total and requires work in every home, not just communities,” he said.
Mbah emphasised the need for consistency in political identity, declaring: “We are APC in the morning, APC in the afternoon, and APC at night.”
He clarified that the October 2025 movement to the APC was not intended to displace existing party members but to strengthen the party’s structure for Enugu’s collective benefit.
The governor added that President Bola Tinubu’s programmes would increasingly impact grassroots communities, citing the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme.
“The Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme will empower over 8.8 million people directly.
“Indirectly, about 40 million people are expected to be lifted out of poverty,” he said.
According to him, the programme would ensure that macroeconomic improvements translate into tangible benefits at the household and community levels.
Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, Chief Emma Eneukwu, said the e-registration exercise was designed to digitalise the party’s membership database nationwide.
“The party has done registration before, but this is a new approach. This time, we are copying Governor Mbah by embracing modern, electronic systems,” Eneukwu said.
He noted that the exercise would provide accurate data on the party’s voting strength, adding that all registrants would be required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN).
Also speaking, APC caretaker chairman in Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye, said the initiative would reposition the party to meet 21st-century political realities.
