The Enugu State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh, has celebrated Christmas with residents of Ugbawka Community, Ward 1, reaffirming his commitment to key road reconstruction projects in the area.
Represented by the Ward Councillor for Ugbawka 1 and Majority Leader of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Mr. Nwankwo Francis, the commissioner distributed 50 bags of rice and ₦500,000 in cash support to community members as part of a festive outreach.
Residents gathered peacefully to receive the items, which were shared in an orderly manner.
In his Christmas message, delivered through his representative, Okoh said the outreach was meant to identify with the people during the festive season, stressing that leadership carries a responsibility to show empathy, especially amid prevailing economic challenges.
Beyond the seasonal gesture, the commissioner assured the community that concrete plans were already underway for the reconstruction of strategic road links connecting Ugbawka to Nomeh, Amurri, and Attakwu communities, aimed at creating multiple access routes.
He disclosed that the road projects have received approval from Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, adding that funding has been secured and construction work would commence soon.
According to him, the initiative forms part of a broader infrastructure drive to improve road connectivity, ease transportation, and enhance economic activities within the area.
Community members expressed appreciation for the Christmas outreach and welcomed the renewed assurance on road development, describing it as a critical step toward improving mobility and quality of life in Ugbawka and its surrounding communities.
