Mbah Positions Enugu as Prime Investment Hub, Rallies Diaspora Support
December 22, 2025
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has called on the Enugu diaspora to take advantage of the state’s growing business and investment opportunities across critical sectors including healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and climate-friendly development.
The governor made the call on Monday during the Enugu diaspora Homecoming event held in Enugu, where he assured investors of an enabling environment backed by strong security architecture and policy stability.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Mbah said his administration had put deliberate measures in place to make Enugu a preferred investment destination, not only in Nigeria but across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Highlighting achievements in education, climate change mitigation and agriculture, the governor said the state government had established a Security Trust Fund and deployed the first set of surveillance drones to track criminal activities.
According to him, climate investment remains a major pillar of the administration’s development strategy, with transportation reforms aligned to the state’s Climate Action Plan.
“Enugu State is the first sub-national government with an approved Climate Action Plan supported by the Global Climate Fund,” Mbah said.
“This is because we have designed several bankable, climate-friendly projects. Those of us in the diaspora space with global connections can work with us to build a strong support system for infrastructure development. Enugu State is ready.”
Assuring investors of safety, the governor said the state’s forest guard unit had been fully equipped and would continue to expand its workforce to flush out criminal elements from forested areas.
“Our government is very clear that investors will not come to Enugu if the state is not secured, because investment goes where there is peace,” he said.
“That is why security was prioritised from day one and will remain a core responsibility of this administration.”
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, said the Mbah administration was revitalising healthcare delivery across primary, secondary and tertiary levels, adding that support from the diaspora would accelerate progress.
Ugwu called on Enugu diaspora professionals to assist with manpower development, equipment support, training and retraining of health workers, as well as expanding enrolment under the Enugu State Universal Health Insurance Scheme.
Also speaking, Dr Chinyere Agbayi, National President of the Enugu Association USA and Co-Chair of the Enugu Diaspora Organisation Homecoming, said members of the diaspora were encouraged by the governor’s infrastructural drive.
“He is an exceptional governor, and the transformation he has brought to Enugu State is unmatched,” Agbayi said.
“We are looking forward to working closely with him in 2026 and beyond.”
She assured the state government that Enugu diaspora members were ready to invest and support development initiatives, disclosing plans by Enugu indigenes in the United States to construct a multi-purpose facility comprising a hospital, event centre and information technology hub for youths.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters, Mrs Olangwa Ezekwu, said the homecoming event was designed to strengthen unity among Enugu indigenes abroad.
She noted that Enugu State was the first in Nigeria to establish diaspora desk officers across all local government areas, reinforcing institutional partnership with the diaspora.
“We want them to partner with the Enugu State Government, and we have created the enabling environment for them to come home and invest,” Ezekwu said.
