The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday delivered a life imprisonment sentence against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) after he was convicted on terrorism charges.
Presiding Judge Justice James Omotosho ruled that the Federal Government successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt on all seven counts. He noted that the evidence presented established the defendant’s culpability in the terrorism-related offences.
Justice Omotosho imposed a life sentence on counts one, four, five, and six, explaining that although the charges carried the option of capital punishment, the court declined to impose a death sentence, stating that human life remains sacred.
On count three, the court handed down a 20-year prison term, while count seven attracted a three-year sentence. All sentences are to run concurrently, according to the judgment delivered.
