The Enugu State Ministry of Health has sealed an illegal hospital in Ada Ulo, Obollo-Etiti Community, Udenu Local Government Area, operated by a fake medical doctor, Mr. Kenneth Mamah.

The enforcement team, led by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Amaechi Mgbodile, arrested Mamah for operating without a licence, lacking professional training, and running the illegal hospital in an unsafe environment.

Dr. Mgbodile explained that the closure aligns with the state government’s campaign to eliminate quackery, ensure patient safety, and enforce minimum health standards across all facilities.

He stressed that no health centre is permitted to perform surgeries or other medical procedures without proper registration, sterile equipment, and an approved theatre environment.

According to him, upon receiving reports about the illegal hospital, the state Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, coordinated swift action involving local authorities and the ministry’s enforcement team.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the ministry stormed the facility and discovered that the operator, who has no medical licence or qualification, had been conducting surgeries in his consulting room,” Mgbodile said.

He described the activities of the suspect as “pure quackery” and a grave danger to public health, adding that the illegal hospital had been in operation for several years before being exposed.

The suspect has been handed over to security agencies for further investigation and prosecution in line with the governor’s zero-tolerance policy on quackery in the health sector.

Dr. Mgbodile urged residents to verify the authenticity of any healthcare facility or practitioner before seeking treatment, emphasizing that the Enugu State Government remains committed to ensuring that only trained and licensed professionals provide healthcare services.

He said the closure of the illegal hospital sends a strong message to impostors that Governor Peter Mbah’s administration will not tolerate any threat to the health and safety of its citizens.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Mr. Aka Eze Aka, assured residents that surveillance across the council would be intensified to identify and close down other illegal hospitals operating within the area. Visit GMTNewsng for more news.
