In a major political realignment, five members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Enugu State and one Labour Party (LP) lawmaker from Plateau State have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their letters of defection were read on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, who noted that the defectors cited internal crises and divisions within their former parties as the primary reasons for leaving.
Welcoming them into the ruling party, Speaker Tajudeen assured that the APC remained a broad platform capable of accommodating all Nigerians willing to contribute to national progress.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, Rep. Nnolim Nnaji of Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, Enugu State, said the defection was driven by a shared commitment to the development of Enugu State and the need to align with the Federal Government for continued support to Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.
“Our decision is for the progress of Enugu State. We believe that by working in synergy with the central government, Governor Mbah can continue his credible performance and deliver more dividends of democracy to our people,” Nnaji stated.
The PDP lawmakers from Enugu State who defected to the APC are:
Hon. Nnolim Nnaji – Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency
Hon. Martins Oke – Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency
Hon. Nnamdi Agbo – Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency
Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu – Aninri/Agwu/Oji River Federal Constituency
Hon. Chidi Obeta – Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency
They were joined by Hon. Daniel Asama, representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency of Plateau State, who also dumped the Labour Party (LP) for the APC.
Earlier, https://gmtnewsng.com/2025/10/30/enugu-apc-shift-2/ had reported plans by Governor Peter Mbah and some Enugu National Assembly members to join the ruling party in a move widely seen as a strategic alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
This wave of defections is expected to reshape the political dynamics in Enugu State, strengthening APC’s presence in the Southeast region ahead of the next electoral cycle. Visit http://gmtnewsng.com for more news.
