Lagos, Oct. 28, 2025 – The Lagos Court has remanded a 42-year-old man, Emmanuel Egbosimba, in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his 19-year-old daughter over several years.
The Lagos Court, presided over by Chief Magistrate L. A. Owolabi, gave the remand order following the gravity of the allegation. The magistrate did not take the defendant’s plea and directed that he remain in custody pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on November 17.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, the alleged offence took place between 2020 and 2025, at the family residence located at 29B, Olusesi Close, Ile Ewe, Ejigbo, Lagos. The Lagos Court heard that the defendant had been sexually molesting his daughter since the death of his wife.
The prosecutor told the Lagos Court that the victim, now 19, was subjected to repeated abuse and threats. She was reportedly warned by her father never to disclose the assaults to anyone, under the threat of death.
ASP Ademigbuji further explained that the victim eventually summoned the courage to report the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the defendant. During interrogation, the victim revealed that the man had been sleeping with her almost every day for years, according to the Lagos Court proceedings.
The prosecutor informed the Court that the alleged act contravenes Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes severe punishment for rape and sexual assault.
The Lagos Court, therefore, ordered that Emmanuel Egbosimba be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre while the DPP prepares legal advice to determine the next steps in prosecution.
