ENUGU | Oct. 22, 2025 – The Founder and Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI), Enugu, Prof. Christian Anieke, has disclosed that the university was established without borrowing a single Kobo, attributing its foundation and growth entirely to divine providence.

Speaking at the 17th Founder’s Day Celebration of Godfrey Okoye University, Prof. Anieke said the institution, owned by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, is a manifestation of God’s grace and miracle.

“No one borrowed a Kobo to establish Godfrey Okoye University. This institution is purely the product of God’s grace and miracle,” Anieke affirmed.

He noted that while many universities in Nigeria relied heavily on bank loans to commence operations, Godfrey Okoye University stood out as a divine exception. Within just two years of its establishment, the institution received its operational license from the National Universities Commission (NUC) – the fastest approval in the Commission’s history, according to him.

Reflecting on the university’s remarkable progress, Anieke recounted that it began with only 250 students but has since grown into a thriving academic community with thousands of intellectually outstanding students across multiple faculties. See: https://gouni.edu.ng/

“When we celebrate this university, we celebrate God’s special grace and miracle on earth,” he said.

“Getting the school approved was an irreversible journey that changed the academic narrative in Enugu and Nigeria.”

The Vice Chancellor emphasized that the founders’ motivation was never money but a vision to transform higher education in Nigeria. He praised the dedication of students and staff, describing their achievements in academics and competitions as proof that the university is fulfilling its divine mission.

Delivering the 17th Founder’s Day Lecture, Dr. Obi Ozor, Enugu State Commissioner for Transport, urged students of Godfrey Okoye University to demonstrate courage, resilience, and innovation in transforming their visions into tangible results. Also read: https://gouni.edu.ng/fill-admission-form/

“Start small but think big,” Ozor advised. “Resilience, creativity, and hard work will set you apart in business, governance, and service to humanity.”

In a goodwill message, the former Ohanaeze Ndigbo Publicity Secretary, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, commended Prof. Anieke’s leadership and the university’s steady growth. He encouraged students to emulate the Vice Chancellor’s discipline, vision, and faith-driven approach to success.

As Godfrey Okoye University marks 17 years of existence, the celebration underscored not only its academic milestones but also its unwavering faith-based foundation – one built without loans but sustained by belief, integrity, and excellence. Visit http://gmtnewsng.com for more.
