October 16, 2025

The Kebbi State Government has approved the sum of N4.05 billion for the rehabilitation of seven general hospitals in Kebbi State, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and providing quality medical services across the state.

Briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting held in Birnin Kebbi and presided over by Governor Nasir Idris, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Junaidu Marshall, said the approval marks another milestone in the government’s effort to revamp the healthcare system through the rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State.

Marshall listed the seven benefiting hospitals as those in Kambaza, Suru, Kamba, Dirin-Daji, Kangiwa, Koko, and Yauri, stressing that the rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State would ensure that residents have better access to quality medical care. He added that Argungu General Hospital had already been rehabilitated and equipped with modern facilities, while hospitals in Zaga, Zuru, Bunza, Gulma, Bena, Jega, Shanga, and Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi were either completed or undergoing renovation.

According to Marshall, a total of 16 general hospitals have already been rehabilitated, in addition to the seven newly approved projects. He said Governor Idris had assured that before the end of his tenure, all 30 general hospitals in Kebbi State would be fully rehabilitated and equipped. The Commissioner reiterated that the rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State remains central to the governor’s vision of affordable and accessible healthcare for all citizens.

He also announced that the council approved the release of N570 million to the Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) for the registration of 45,000 vulnerable persons under the State Social Register. Marshall explained that this initiative complements the ongoing rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State by ensuring that vulnerable citizens can access healthcare without financial constraints. Each of the 225 wards in the state, he said, will register at least 200 vulnerable individuals.

Highlighting the broader healthcare agenda, Marshall disclosed that under the World Bank IMPACT project, the state had provided counterpart funding for the rehabilitation of 73 primary healthcare centres, while the council approved an additional 42 centres for rehabilitation to meet national standards. These efforts, he emphasized, are part of the holistic approach to healthcare reform and align with the rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State.

In addition, the council approved N407.5 million as a take-off grant for the Kebbi State Drugs, Medical and Consumable Agency to ensure the availability of subsidized drugs across hospitals and primary health centres. Marshall appealed for public support, assuring that the government remains committed to improving the living standards of the people through infrastructural and healthcare renewal, particularly the rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abba Sani-Kalgo, revealed that the council had also approved the establishment of the Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics to enhance data-driven governance. Governor Idris, he said, approved N900 million as the bureau’s take-off grant, while Prof. Umar Usman was appointed as the substantive Statistician-General. The initiative, he noted, would support effective planning for development programmes that align with the rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State and other infrastructural projects.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Mu’azu, announced the approval of N3 billion for the procurement of 2,000 power tillers under the Kaura Development Agenda (KADAGE) to boost agricultural productivity. He added that these economic interventions complement the ongoing rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State by promoting rural development and job creation.

In the same meeting, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Maccido, disclosed that the council approved N1.4 billion for the procurement of school furniture to improve learning environments across public schools in Kebbi. This decision, he noted, aligns with the state’s comprehensive development plan alongside the rehabilitation of general hospitals in Kebbi State, agricultural reforms, and data-driven planning initiatives aimed at transforming Kebbi into a model of sustainable growth. http://gmtnewsng.com
