Enugu Monarch: Smart Green Schools Now Better Than Private Education Under Mbah

Enugu, Sept. 22, 2025 – The Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Asadu, has applauded Governor Peter Mbah for what he called promise-keeping and visionary leadership that is transforming Enugu into a modern, smart state.

Reacting on Monday to the rollout of Smart Green Schools across the state, Igwe Asadu described Mbah as “a technocrat extraordinary” and insisted that the initiative is “a game changer in the state’s primary and secondary education sector that will nurture future leaders.”

He said Enugu was fortunate to have “a promise-keeping governor who, against all odds, has kept faith with Ndi Enugu.” He explained that the Smart Green Schools, one in every ward of the state, are full-scale innovation centres designed to foster 21st-century skills and integrate cutting-edge technology into classrooms, ensuring that children acquire the digital competence needed for the modern world. He added that with the initiative, “Governor Mbah has revolutionised education in Enugu, making public primary and secondary schools more competitive and attractive than private schools.”

The monarch, who is also the traditional ruler of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom in Nsukka LGA, immediate past Chairman of the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Council of Traditional Leaders of Africa (Nigeria Chapter), commended the governor for “transforming the state within a few years of his administration.” He maintained that Enugu had witnessed a turnaround in all sectors of its economy, crediting the progress to Mbah’s deliberate efforts to redefine governance.

Highlighting specific policies, Igwe Asadu observed that “Mbah’s visionary leadership has translated into unprecedented infrastructural development across critical sectors.” He cited the allocation of 33% of the 2025 budget to education, which gave birth to 260 Smart Green Schools, the establishment of 260 functional health centres across the state, and numerous other completed and ongoing projects, describing them as “remarkable and deserving of commendation.”

Earlier on Monday, Governor Mbah had announced in a broadcast that the shift from old school structures and rote learning to world-class infrastructure and experiential learning had become imperative to equip Enugu children with the knowledge and skills to compete in the global economy. GMTNewsng
