President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council members, and principal officers of the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni in Rivers State.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, Tinubu named Professor Don Mon Baridam as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, while Professor Chinedu Mmom will serve as the Vice-Chancellor.

“President Tinubu has appointed a team of distinguished academics and professionals to pioneer the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni, as it prepares to admit its first set of students in September 2025,” Onanuga said.

Baridam, a professor of Management specialising in Organisational Behaviour, previously lectured at the University of Port Harcourt. Mmom, a professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the same university, is a former Rivers State Commissioner for Education.

Other Governing Council members include Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South West), Prof. Chima Oji (South East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North West).

The principal officers are Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (Registrar, South-South), Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (Bursar, North Central), and Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G.B. (Librarian, South-South).

Highlighting the significance of the appointments, Onanuga added: “The President expects the newly constituted Governing Council to lay a solid foundation for academic excellence, innovation, and environmental sustainability in line with the vision of the University.”

President Tinubu had signed the bill establishing the institution into law on February 3, 2025, underscoring his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality tertiary education. GMTNewsng
