Oshogbo – Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially sworn in the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors, charging them to uphold the principles of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and work towards the transformation of the state.

During the swearing-in ceremony held at the Osun State Government House on Sunday, Adeleke directed the new officials to stay away from local government secretariats to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Addressing the officials, the governor emphasized that the event marked the completion of a long journey that had been in progress for over a year. He commended the resilience of the people of Osun in achieving this democratic milestone.

“I call on you to be agents of change, community developers, and providers of the dividends of democracy,” Adeleke stated while urging the chairmen to fulfill their responsibilities with diligence and dedication.

The governor reassured the people of Osun that his administration would continue to prioritize their welfare, emphasizing that his government was committed to delivering good governance at all levels.

“We will not fail you. People’s welfare will continue to be our watchword,” he added, stressing the need for accountability and transparency among the newly elected officials.

Adeleke also commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for conducting a credible election. He acknowledged the efforts of security agencies and government officials who ensured a smooth electoral process.

Furthermore, the governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for maintaining peace in Osun State. “I assure Mr. President of my commitment to the rule of law,” Adeleke affirmed.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who was present at the ceremony, congratulated the newly elected officials and reminded them of their campaign promises.

“This is an opportunity for you to deliver to the grassroots. This will be your stepping stone to higher positions, and the reward for hard work is more opportunities,” Makinde said.

Makinde also condemned the outbreak of violence in the state on Monday, February 17, 2025, expressing his concerns about potential political instability. He warned against any attempts to destabilize the region.

Earlier, the Chairman of OSSIEC, Barrister Hashim Abioye, presented Certificates of Return to the elected chairmen. He congratulated them on their victory and urged them to be good ambassadors of democracy in both conduct and service to the people.
