The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the local government elections conducted across the state on Saturday. The announcement was made by the commission’s chairman, Hashim Abioye, during a Facebook Live broadcast in the evening.
According to Abioye, PDP candidates emerged victorious in all 332 wards, securing every available councillorship seat. Additionally, the party claimed all 30 local government chairmanship positions, making it a total sweep for the ruling party in the state.
“The election was conducted as scheduled, and I can confirm that the Peoples Democratic Party has won in all wards and local government areas,” Abioye stated. He emphasized that despite some challenges, the commission ensured a smooth electoral process.
The local government election commenced on Saturday morning as planned, with voters across the state participating in the process. Reports from various polling units indicated a relatively peaceful exercise, though concerns were raised about voter turnout and logistics.
However, in a surprising development, Abioye revealed that security operatives had sealed off the OSSIEC headquarters, creating obstacles for the delivery of electoral materials to polling stations. “We faced unexpected challenges as security personnel restricted access to our office, which delayed the distribution of election materials,” he said.
Despite these security concerns, the election results remained unchanged, with PDP securing an overwhelming victory. The commission assured the public that all due processes were followed and that the election outcome reflected the will of the people. GMTNewsng
