Nkanu West Chairman Unveils N4.7 Billion “Budget of Hope” for 2025

The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, has presented a N4.7 billion budget estimate for the 2025 fiscal year, pledging to deliver inclusive governance and prioritize projects that directly impact the lives of the people. The “Budget of Hope,” unveiled on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the council headquarters in Agbani, emphasizes development across health, power, water, sanitation, agriculture, and youth empowerment.

Hon. Ogbodo described the proposed budget as a transformative step towards fulfilling his administration’s vision of creating a progressive and equitable Nkanu West. “This budget is designed to directly touch the lives of our people by addressing their critical developmental needs while adhering to due process, equity, transparency, and accountability,” he said.

The chairman affirmed that the budget aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s agenda of disruptive innovation and optimal performance across the state. “We are committed to pursuing projects that resonate with the state government’s vision and ensuring that every corner of Nkanu West feels the impact of good governance,” Ogbodo added.

He highlighted specific goals, including improving access to healthcare, clean water, and rural electrification, as well as reducing poverty and fostering youth employment. “Our administration is focused on leaving no one behind. Every man, woman, and child in Nkanu West will feel the positive impact of this budget. Together, we will create a peaceful and prosperous community,” the council boss declared.

Hon. Onyekachi Emmanuel Nnamani, Leader of the Legislative Council, commended the chairman for his leadership and vision. “With ongoing projects like the modern abattoir at Eke Agbani market, boreholes with solar-powered overhead tanks, and improved hinterland roads, Hon. Ogbodo has demonstrated a commitment to meaningful development. This budget is another bold step in the right direction,” Nnamani stated.

A community leader from Ozalla, Chief Chigozie Obiayo, expressed optimism about the budget’s focus on rural development. “The motor park project at Ozalla Four Corners express and other rural infrastructure will ease transportation and improve economic activities for our people. This is what governance should look like,” he remarked.

Another resident, Mrs. Ngozi Nwankwo, praised the inclusion of sanitation and water projects, calling them essential for healthier living. “Access to clean water and proper sanitation will reduce diseases in our communities. This budget gives us hope for a better tomorrow,” she noted.

Youth leader from Akpugo, Mr. Chinwendu Nwokoye, applauded the emphasis on employment and empowerment. “The chairman’s focus on creating jobs for our youth is commendable. It’s not just about projects; it’s about building the future of our young people,” Ani stated.

The chairman extended his gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for his ongoing support and commitment to Nkanu West. He also lauded the Legislative Council for their cooperation, describing them as partners in progress. “I thank the Leader, Hon. Nnamani, and all the councillors for their advice and collaboration. Together, we will achieve greater things for our people,” Ogbodo said.

The Leader of the Legislative Council assured the chairman of a speedy passage of the budget, emphasizing the council’s shared dedication to improving the lives of the people. “We are ready to give this budget the urgent attention it deserves because it speaks directly to the needs of our constituents,” Nnamani assured.
