Abuja – President Mohammadu Buhari has approved the setting up of a Federal Government Team to engage with Twitter over the suspension of the operations of the microblogging and social networking service in Nigeria, recently.
A release credited to the Special Assistant to the President (Media), Office of the Minister of Information and Culture, Segun Adeyemi, says the approval was announced in Abuja in a statement on Tuesday by the Hon. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
The team which will be chaired by the Hon. Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, will meet with Twitter to work out a middle ground for mutual benefits.
Other members of the team are the Attorney General of the Federation and Honourable Minister of Justice, Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment as well as other relevant government agencies.
Twitter, following the recent slamming of indefinite suspension of its operations in Nigeria, for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence, the Microblogger wrote to President Buhari requesting to engage with the Federal Government over the suspension, with a view to working out a new
path forward.
