The Police Command in Benue State has arrested three suspects in connection with alleged armed robbery and cult-related activities in different parts of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and made available to journalists in Makurdi.
Edet said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Vandeikya Local Government Area received credible intelligence on Monday indicating that hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers were operating within the area and were in possession of firearms and other dangerous weapons.
She explained that the DPO immediately mobilised operatives to the location, leading to the arrest of the suspects during the operation.
According to her, a search conducted on the suspects resulted in the recovery of one locally fabricated revolver pistol and a jack knife.
The spokesperson said the suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Makurdi.
In a related development, Edet said the DPO of Yelwata Division, on the same day, received intelligence that suspected cult members were planning an attack on rival groups at Udei, in Guma Local Government Area.
She said patrol teams, in collaboration with other tactical units, were swiftly deployed to the area.
“During the operation, one suspect was arrested, while other suspects escaped,” she said.
Items recovered from the suspect included a cutlass, a knife, and hard drugs.
Edet added that during preliminary investigations, the suspect confessed to being a member of the MBS cult group.
She said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while further investigations had been transferred to the State CID, Makurdi.
The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ifeanyi Emenari, reassured residents that the Police Command remained resolute in its commitment to eliminating cultism and all forms of criminality across Benue State.
Emenari also urged members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information to enhance effective policing and public safety.
