The Yobe State Police Command has announced that it recorded a total of 762 arrests across the state between January and December 23, 2025, as part of intensified efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Damaturu.

According to Abdulkarim, 428 suspects were arrested for alleged capital offences, including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape and culpable homicide, while 298 others were apprehended for minor offences such as theft, burglary, cheating, breach of public peace and other social vices.

He said that most of the suspects had already been arraigned before courts of competent jurisdiction, while investigations were ongoing on a few remaining cases.

The spokesman explained that the achievements were reviewed during a strategic security meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ado, with Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Departments and Tactical Commanders across the state.

During the meeting, the Commissioner commended officers and men of the Command for their resilience and dedication in safeguarding lives and property despite prevailing security challenges.

He urged them to sustain the momentum and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying the fight against crime and criminality in Yobe State.

On security preparations for the festive season, Abdulkarim said the Commissioner had directed all Divisional Police Officers to maximize security deployment at worship centres, schools, markets, recreational facilities, children’s playgrounds and other crowded locations.

He added that special attention would be given to schools, especially as academic activities were scheduled to resume on January 15, 2025.

According to him, the Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has activated a comprehensive operational order aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful festive period across the state.

The Commissioner also stressed the importance of intelligence-led policing, directing officers to intensify proactive strategies and remain vigilant in protecting police facilities, arms and surrounding communities from criminal attacks.

Abdulkarim noted that community engagement remained critical to effective policing, stressing that crime thrives where communities are not actively involved in security efforts.

He urged residents to support the police by promptly reporting suspicious persons and activities, assuring them of swift response to distress calls and continued commitment to public safety.
