President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the release of the 24 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists in Maga, Kebbi State, last Monday, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening national security and accelerating rescue efforts for those still held captive.
The attack occurred at dawn on November 17, when terrorists invaded the school shortly after a military detachment left the premises. The Kebbi abduction triggered further security breaches, with copycat kidnappings recorded in Eruku, Kwara State, and Papiri, Niger State.
Authorities confirmed that all 38 kidnapped victims in Eruku were freed on Sunday. On the same day, the Niger State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria announced that 50 missing students from a Catholic school in the state had been found in their parents’ homes.
President Tinubu praised the collective efforts of security agencies in securing the freedom of the abducted victims, but he stressed the urgent need for intensified security operations to rescue those still in captivity.
“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must put as a matter of urgency more boots on the ground in the vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping. My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this,” President Tinubu said.
The President called on security forces to escalate their operations and prioritize the rescue of remaining abducted students, reinforcing the administration’s broader objective of improving national security and safeguarding communities.
