The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of a deceased soldier who was assaulted by a mentally unstable individual in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on November 16, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, spokesman for the 81 Division, said the deceased soldier was attempting to calm a chaotic situation when the assailant struck him on the head with a heavy log, causing severe injuries.
Yahaya said other soldiers at the scene intervened immediately, neutralised the attacker and recovered the deceased soldier’s weapon. The wounded personnel was rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
He confirmed that the deceased soldier had been buried according to Islamic rites, with the Acting Commanding Officer and several officers in attendance.
The 81 Division expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, acknowledging his service and sacrifice to the nation.
Yahaya added that a full investigation had commenced and urged the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities and ensure responsible reporting while inquiries are ongoing.
