November 6, 2025 – Port Harcourt, Nigeria:

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has urged officers of the Rivers Command to work together to improve road safety in Rivers State and address the growing challenge of traffic congestion.

Mohammed gave the charge during a National Town Hall Meeting and the EMBER Months Road Safety Campaign Flag-Off held in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

He commended the officers for their dedication, commitment, and loyalty to the service of the nation, while also appreciating the spouses of the officers for their unwavering support.

The Corps Marshal noted that despite ongoing efforts, road crashes and related trauma continue to pose major public health and economic challenges in Nigeria. He therefore stressed the need for collective action and professional discipline to enhance road safety in Rivers State.

Mohammed cautioned officers against extortion, lateness, and other acts of misconduct that could tarnish the image of the corps. He also called for collaboration between sectors to effectively reduce the frequency of traffic accidents.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us. We must work collectively to make it safer and better, especially on our roads,” he said.

In his remarks, Assistant Corps Marshal and Zonal Commanding Officer, FRSC Port Harcourt Headquarters, Henry Benemesia, commended Mohammed for repositioning the corps through effective leadership and reforms.

Benemesia disclosed that 1,400 marshals had been converted to commissioned officers under the Corps Marshal’s administration, reflecting a renewed focus on welfare and professionalism.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of officers in the state to maintaining discipline, promoting road safety in Rivers State, and ensuring the FRSC remains a model agency in the fight against corruption and road indiscipline. Visit GMTNewsng for more news.
