The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a PDP reconciliation committee to address the ongoing leadership tussle within the party and restore harmony ahead of its forthcoming national convention.

BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, announced the decision while briefing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday after an emergency BoT meeting.

The development comes following the emergence of Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed as acting National Chairman, which sparked tension at the party’s national secretariat and prompted security operatives to temporarily seal off the complex.

Wabara expressed concern over the situation, describing the invasion of the secretariat as regrettable and contrary to the party’s ideals.

“As the conscience of the party, the BoT will not take sides. Our focus remains on safeguarding the integrity of the PDP through dialogue, not discord,” Wabara stated.

He added that the establishment of the PDP reconciliation committee was a show of maturity and responsibility rather than weakness, aimed at reuniting party members and strengthening the PDP’s internal democracy.

According to him, the committee includes representatives from all geopolitical zones, with Ambassador Hassan Adamu (North East) as Chairman and Chief Mike Abiadome (South-South) as Secretary. The panel is expected to submit its report by Tuesday, November 11.

Wabara reaffirmed that the PDP remains a strong, united, and focused political party under the leadership of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum.

Earlier at the meeting, Damagum confirmed that the 2025 Elective National Convention would proceed as scheduled on November 16, following a court ruling that affirmed the party’s right to conduct the exercise.

Damagum hailed Justice Akintola’s November 4 judgment as a victory for democracy, saying it validated the PDP’s commitment to constitutional governance and internal reform.

He urged party members to support the PDP reconciliation committee and work collectively to rebuild the party’s structures, mobilize new supporters, and strengthen democratic values in Nigeria.

“The PDP must lead by example, providing visionary leadership even while in opposition,” he said, emphasizing unity, integrity, and strategic planning ahead of the national convention. Visit GMTNewsng for more news.
