Over 1,000 members of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major NNPP defection in the state’s political landscape.
The defectors, who gathered at the Fine Time Events Centre in Kano, explained that their decision was driven by the impactful interventions of President Bola Tinubu and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin.
This development was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate.
According to the statement, the leader of the defectors, Aminu Minjibir, said that members of the group had worked tirelessly for the success of the Kwankwasiyya Movement but were disappointed that the NNPP was not meeting the expectations of the people of Kano State.
Senator Jibrin, who received the defectors, described the NNPP defection as a timely and wise decision. He noted that joining the APC would enable the group to contribute meaningfully to development at both state and national levels.
He commended the new members for choosing the APC, describing it as the largest political party in Africa and one that remains committed to human and infrastructural development.
Jibrin further stated that the NNPP defection demonstrates growing confidence in the APC’s leadership under President Bola Tinubu, whose policies have continued to attract support from across Nigeria.
He assured the defectors of equal opportunity within the APC and urged them to work collectively toward the party’s continued success in Kano and beyond. Visit GMTNewsng for more news.
