The APC in Nkanu West has commenced its campaign for the September 26 council elections, rallying support for John Chukwuma Ogbodo and Friday Nnam on continuity and development.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nkanu West Local Government Area chapter, has flagged off its campaign for the Enugu State September 26 council chairmanship and councillorship elections, seeking another mandate for the administration led by Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo.
The APC Nkanu West campaign commenced at Group School, Agbani, proceeded through Amurri Ward and ended the day’s mobilisation at Amodu Ward, with party members, community leaders and stakeholders rallying support for the party’s candidates.
Ogbodo is seeking another term as council chairman on the APC platform, with his incumbent deputy, Engr. Friday Nnam, who hails from Agbani, as his running mate. The party is presenting the joint ticket as a platform for continuity and broad community representation.
Addressing the gathering, APC LGA Chairman Chinedu Nnaji expressed confidence in the party’s candidates and urged members and stakeholders to remain united. He called for a peaceful, issue-based campaign and said the party would draw attention to the development record of APC administrations at both state and local government levels.
Nnaji’s message, as summarised from the event, was that voters should assess the candidates on their record, capacity and development agenda, while supporters should avoid personal attacks and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the campaign.
Chairman of the campaign organisation, Hon. Onyeka Onwe, a former Deputy Chairman of Nkanu West LGA, also expressed confidence in the party’s chances, pointing to the incumbent administration’s infrastructure and grassroots interventions as reasons for seeking continuity.
Onwe said the campaign structure was prepared for mobilisation across all wards and called for broad-based support, urging party members to take the message of continuity and development to the electorate peacefully.
The campaign received the support of Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku, Enugu State Executive Secretary of Primary Healthcare and a daughter of Agbani, who welcomed the campaign team. Her remarks, as summarised, situated the exercise within the wider development efforts of the Enugu State Government under Governor Peter Mbah and the interventions of the Nkanu West council administration.
Also welcoming the party faithful was Dr. Ben Nwonye, APC National Deputy Chairman, South, who hails from Amurri Ward. He urged the electorate to support the APC candidates, while stressing the importance of continuity and development at the grassroots.
Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, was represented by his Chief of Staff, Victor Eneh, while Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, was also represented at the campaign.
The development argument featured prominently, with the APC pointing to Governor Mbah’s wider agenda encompassing road infrastructure, Smart Green Schools, primary healthcare, water infrastructure, human-capital development, economic and investment reforms and stronger fiscal capacity for Enugu State.
At the local level, the Ogbodo administration has highlighted the construction and rehabilitation of asphalt and access roads, solar-powered boreholes and other grassroots infrastructure. Such projects are relevant to residents because better connectivity facilitates movement, trade and access to schools, healthcare facilities and other public services.
The administration’s supporters say these interventions have improved connectivity and access to basic services in communities across Nkanu West. These claims form a central part of the APC’s argument that voters should allow the administration to consolidate its development programme.
The campaign was also attended by the APC candidate for Nkanu West state constituency, Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, Professor Gozie Ogbodo; Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo; Member representing Nkanu West Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu; and the Chairperson of the State Technical and Vocational Management Board (STVMB), Dr. Amaka Ngene. Prof. Ogbodo’s contribution centred on development, good governance, continuity and credible leadership.
The APC is seeking support for Ogbodo and Nnam as well as its councillorship candidates across the various wards. Its continuity argument will now be tested against the programmes and candidates of other parties ahead of the September 26 election.
The campaign will continue through Obe, Ozalla, Akegbe Ugwu 1, Akegbe Ugwu 2, Umueze, Akpugo 1, Akpugo 3, Akpugo 4 and Akpugo 5, before rounding off at Obuno-Akpugo 2 on Thutsday, September 17, the date contained in the campaign itinerary.
