AWKA, September 23, 2025 – The Traditional Ruler of Awka Kingdom in Anambra, HRM Gibson Nwosu, has charged the people of the state to embrace peace especially before, during, and after the Nov. 8 governorship election in the state.

He made the call on Monday in Awka, during a courtesy visit by Ms Amaka Uzodinma, Zonal Head, South-East Peace Building office, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, (IPCR), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The traditional ruler also reiterated the need for people to embrace peaceful co-existence, to enjoy democratic dividends.

Nwosu, who is a retired Nigerian Air Force pilot, said that with peaceful co-existence, citizens would enjoy uninterrupted progress, infrastructural growth, and insecurity would be properly checked.

“As we are joining the global world to celebrate the 2025 International Day of Peace, peace will lead in all homes, all businesses, and communities of Anambra.

“I release this pigeon as a symbol of peace and I pray that undying peace will be established in all warring countries of the world.

“I enthrone peace and oneness in all the communities of the states and families that are in a chaotic state,” he prayed.

Earlier, the IPCR south-east zonal head said that World Peace Day was celebrated annually on September 21.

She said the peace day celebration was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), to reflect on peace and its meaning to be able to apply the same principles in all their daily living.

Uzodinma said that the World Peace Day was set to achieve promotion of worldwide harmony , unity, and nonviolence, serving as a reminder that peace is key to progress and well 6 of the world.

“Our theme for the World Peace Day celebration 2025 is,  “Act Now For A Peaceful World”.

“World peace is a concept of an ideal state within and among all people and nations on earth to be united in a common goal.

“We, at the IPCR, also mark 25 years of service today and believe that we have created reasonable awareness among the people across the country, ” she said.

She said that IPCR partnered with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, and Non-Governmental Agencies knowing the power of conviction they hold over their subjects.

She said that as grassroots leaders, they were in a better position to preach better on peaceful co-existence and effective methods in resolving conflicts.

Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, the National Vice-President, Ohanaeze-Ndigbo Worldwide, described the day as worth celebrating annually.

Okeke-Ogene said that peaceful co-existence was priceless as its benefits were numerous.

He charged the southeast people to learn how to honor and respect their traditional stool as such an act would reduce conflicts of various degrees that were majorly avoidable.

Mr Bruno Ibekilo, a Professor of Economics at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, commended the UN body for creating various channels to unite the world and making it a better place to live in.

Ibekilo disclosed that over time that the academia had seen the huge benefits of talking about the need to have a peaceful co-existence and conflict resolution in human development. GMTNewsng
