…Vows no crime will go unpunished
…Police arrest two suspects over Eha-Amufu killings
Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State has reaffirmed that the state remains one of the safest in Nigeria, dismissing ongoing attempts by purveyors of falsehood to tarnish its security reputation.
Speaking on Wednesday at the Lion Building, Enugu, while receiving the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 13, AIG Abayomi Oladipo, Governor Mbah emphasized that his administration had invested heavily in security infrastructure and capacity to prevent and resolve crime across the state.
This assurance came as the police in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area confirmed the arrest of two key suspects in connection with the recent deadly attack on farm settlements in Eha-Amufu.
Mbah, who said security was foundational to his government’s ambition to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, noted that Enugu had taken deliberate steps to entrench peace and safety.
“With the security infrastructure we have put in place – the Command and Control Centre, the Distress Response Squad with over 150 security vehicles, AI-enabled surveillance cameras across the state – we have the capacity not just to prevent crime, but also to track and solve them when they occur,” he said.
The governor decried the use of social media to spread misleading narratives about Enugu’s security situation.
“Enugu is arguably the most secure city in Nigeria, but some people try to distort this reality by recycling outdated incidents or posting images and videos from elsewhere, falsely claiming they happened here,” Mbah said.
“Regardless of these antics, we have zero tolerance for crime. No offence will go unpunished. We’ll keep supporting our security agencies to ensure the safety of our people.”
Earlier, AIG Oladipo, who was in the state on a familiarization tour, said he had received security briefings from the Enugu and Anambra State Police Commands and expressed satisfaction with the security coordination in the zone.
“I want to thank you, Your Excellency, for the strong backing you have given to the police and other security agencies. It’s evident that your support is yielding results,” the AIG said.
It is worth noting that in the most recent travel advisory issued by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) on June 13, 2025 – still valid as of June 18 – Enugu was one of the few states in Nigeria without any security warnings or restrictions for travelers.
Meanwhile, police operatives in Isi-Uzo confirmed the arrest of 26-year-old Matthew Ebeh and a female accomplice. Both were allegedly involved in the Eha-Amufu attack that left several residents dead. Ebeh is said to have led the militant herders into the community, while the woman reportedly acted as a guide and provided intelligence on security movement in the area. Their arrest followed a breakthrough after a local survivor alerted security forces. GMTNewsng
