Enugu, Nigeria – May 29, 2025.

Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State, on Thursday, marked his second anniversary in office with a detailed account of his administration’s bold reforms and infrastructural milestones, pledging an even more aggressive pursuit of prosperity, access, and excellence for the state.

Addressing a large crowd at the Okpara Square in Enugu, Governor Mbah highlighted a wide range of accomplishments, including the construction of over 800 kilometres of roads, a major leap in educational investment, landmark transport terminals, and a tech-driven security network.

“We began this journey with a vision: to lay the foundations for a prosperous Enugu, built on access, equity, and excellence,” Mbah declared. “In just two years, we have built over 800 kilometres of roads, connecting our farms, markets, industries, schools, and hospitals.”

The governor also announced the completion of five ultra-modern transport terminals – Holy Ghost Terminals 1 and 2, Gariki, Abakpa, and Nsukka – each designed to modernize public transport and boost local commerce. “These terminals are ready for commissioning and mark a new era in urban mobility for our people,” he said.

In a move that has drawn national attention, Mbah disclosed that his administration had allocated 33 percent of the entire state budget to education – surpassing global benchmarks. He noted that 260 Smart Green Schools are currently underway across the state.

“These schools will be equipped with digital whiteboards, science laboratories, and solar-powered learning environments. It is a revolutionary step that underscores our belief in quality education as the foundation of development,” he said.

On healthcare, the governor announced that 260 fully equipped Primary Healthcare Centres – one for each ward – are under construction. “We want to ensure that no mother has to fear childbirth because of distance or neglect,” he added.

Highlighting progress in security, Governor Mbah said his administration had launched a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre and deployed 150 AI-enabled patrol vehicles. “Today, violent crime is on the decline, and our people can travel, trade, and sleep in peace again,” he affirmed.

The governor also emphasized economic revitalization, revealing that the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) had increased by over 600 percent. According to him, dormant state assets had been revived, new investments attracted, and reforms introduced to improve the ease of doing business.

“In agriculture, we are building a 300,000-hectare Landbank and rolling out 200-hectare Farm Estates in every ward to drive agro-industrial production for export and local consumption,” he said.

Governor Mbah also celebrated the completion of the Enugu International Conference Centre and the recent launch of Enugu Air, which he described as “a bold move positioning Enugu on the global stage.” The state is further overhauling its public transport system with the deployment of 200 CNG-powered buses, 2,000 city taxis, and smart ticketing technologies to ease costs for families.

The anniversary celebration, attended by top political leaders, traditional rulers, business executives, and thousands of enthusiastic citizens, ended on a hopeful note.

“I am deeply encouraged by the support of respected leaders and you all, my dear people of Enugu State. This is only the beginning of our story,” Mbah concluded. “Let’s do more.” GMTNewsng
