Port Harcourt, May 1, 2025 – Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has paid glowing tribute to the workers of Rivers State in a stirring Workers’ Day message, celebrating their resilience and urging renewed commitment to safeguarding labour rights amid mounting challenges.
In a press statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, Governor Fubara applauded the “resilience, dedication, and professionalism” of the state’s workforce, describing them as the cornerstone of Rivers State’s development and a “beacon of hope for a better future.”
The Governor’s message comes at a time of national reflection on the rights and welfare of workers, aligning with the 2025 Workers’ Day theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate.” Fubara emphasized that the theme speaks to urgent concerns surrounding environmental hazards and socio-political instability, which pose increasing risks to workplace safety and public welfare.
“This year’s theme is a clarion call for all stakeholders to prioritize occupational health and safety as vital foundations for sustainable growth,” he said, noting the need for proactive and climate-conscious labour policies.
Governor Fubara commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in pursuing labour reforms and climate-resilient workplace strategies, while also expressing deep appreciation for the Rivers workforce’s unwavering service despite the state’s current political tensions.
“Our workers have remained patriotic and dutiful in the face of adversity. Their sacrifices are the bedrock of our stability and progress,” he said.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and called on all employers – both in the public and private sectors – to honour labour laws, respect human dignity, and ensure fair working conditions.
As the state continues to navigate political uncertainties, Governor Fubara urged unity and resilience among the people of Rivers State, expressing hope that “the forces of justice, peace, and progress will ultimately prevail.”
He concluded with prayers for divine wisdom and guidance for leaders across all levels, reiterating his administration’s resolve to foster a work environment grounded in dignity, opportunity, and prosperity. GMTNewsng
