The Enugu State Government has firmly dismissed the illegal sit-at-home order issued by unknown individuals, urging citizens to ignore it and continue with their regular activities. The government reassured residents that the state was secure and had moved past such intimidations, stressing that life and business should go on without interruption.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, emphasized the administration’s unwavering commitment to security. He stated, “Our attention has been drawn to a fake video circulating on social media, advising residents of the South East to observe a sit-at-home on Monday and Tuesday. Enugu State has long left behind that era when criminals dictated public behavior.”
He further reiterated that the government had put robust security measures in place. “The Dr. Peter Mbah Administration has demonstrated its capacity to protect the state. We encourage civil servants, traders, students, and business owners to continue their daily activities. Those who fail to show up will only undermine the government’s efforts to maintain law and order,” Onyia warned.
Backing the government’s stance, the Enugu State Police Command rejected the illegal sit-at-home order. Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, echoed the Commissioner of Police’s strong opposition, stating, “CP Kanayo Uzuegbu has described the sit-at-home advisory by a faceless individual as baseless and aimed at inciting fear. Enugu State has moved beyond such tactics.”
CP Uzuegbu further warned that anyone attempting to disrupt public order would face severe consequences. “We will take decisive action against any group or individuals trying to disrupt the peace. Citizens should carry on with their lawful activities without fear,” Uzuegbu assured, adding that the police and other security agencies are fully on alert.
Reacting to the development, prominent community members also applauded the proactive approach of the government. “Governor Mbah has displayed exemplary leadership in safeguarding the lives and property of Enugu citizens,” said business leader Mr. Emeka Obi. Meanwhile, Mrs. Nneka Onu, a local community figure, remarked, “The seamless collaboration between the government and security forces gives us confidence to continue our daily activities.”
The police advised parents and guardians to guide their children away from involvement in criminal activities, with DSP Ndukwe cautioning, “The consequences of engaging in unlawful acts are dire.” He further urged citizens to report suspicious activities through the emergency numbers: 08032003702, 08098880172, 08086671202, or via email at infoenugupolice@gmail.com. Another security expert, Chief Chukwuemeka Ibe, commended the government’s firm stance, noting, “This coordinated response assures us that no room will be given to destabilize Enugu’s peace.”
