The Arrest of a suspected armed robber in Enugu State has led to the recovery of a locally-made pistol and a live cartridge after a citizen alerted police to suspicious activity at a hotel in Udenu LGA.

The Enugu State Police Command has detained a 26-year-old man suspected of armed robbery and recovered a locally-made pistol and a live cartridge in a citizen-supported operation in Udenu Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in Enugu.

Ndukwe said the operation took place at Obollo Etiti following credible information received by the police on Monday, August 10, at about 1:45 p.m.

According to him, the information alerted the police to the suspicious activities of a young man who had arrived at a hotel in the area, reportedly to lodge.

Police officers acted on the information and searched the suspect’s bag, leading to the recovery of a locally-made pistol and a live cartridge.

The suspect was subsequently detained and taken into police custody alongside the recovered items.

Ndukwe said preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of an armed robbery gang that targeted Point-of-Sale (POS) operators.

According to the police spokesman, the suspect allegedly disclosed that members of the gang fled the area following his arrest.

“The suspect will be prosecuted in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” Ndukwe said.

The police did not disclose the identity of the suspect.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, commended the resident who provided the information that led to the operation.

Giwa urged residents to continue providing credible information about suspicious persons and activities to assist security agencies in preventing crime.

He assured residents that the command was working to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected gang who fled the scene.

The commissioner also said investigations into the case were ongoing.

The police appealed for continued cooperation between residents and security agencies, stressing that timely information can assist in disrupting criminal activities and improving public safety.
