Gesture in honour of my late mother ~Agbo
According to Collins Dictionary, “a public-spirited person is someone who tries to help the community that they belong to”. In a similar vein, “a philanthropist is a person who donates time, money, experience, skills or talent to help create a better world”. These rare attributes found fusion in one man, Hon Martin Ndubuisi Agbo popularly known as Global.
Ndubuisi Agbo
Ubahu is an agrarian community located in the north of Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, the community made up of egalitarian men and women came alive January as it witnessed a gathering of the high and mighty in an annual ritual of Widows, Women and Youth “give away” organized by Chief Martin Ndubuisi Agbo, an illustrious son of the town, and the incumbent Deputy Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Council.
It seemed an event of celestial endorsement as clement weather heralded the day that at about 2:48 PM, the angelic voices of women including widows and youth began to humm melodious songs of merry and thanksgiving as ignited by the Emma Agu led Heritage International Band which was soon to set the entire Ubahu community agog.
The Ubahu palatial home of the host and hostess was decorated to taste and both of them, every inch natty.
Declaring open the event, the host, Chief Ndubuisi Agbo flanked by his lovely wife and adorable children, after praying to God for His gift of life, thanked the crowd which comprised of widows, women and youth from Nkanu East LGA, as well as the invited guests, whom he said their prayers had guided him through the years, making it possible for him to so far attain a “moderate height” especially in his business life, another reason for him to give back to the community.

Continuing, he noted that the event which was now an annual ritual was in memory of his late loving mother, Mrs N’okarigwe who sacrificed a lot for him but could not be alive to witness “the seed she planted and watered” blossom 🌼 into a tree 🌲. He thanked God for making him “a symbol of hope” and prayed Him to bless as many people as gathered with good things of life and children who would do even more than he was doing.
Hon Agbo admonished the youth to always keep themselves meaningfully engaged, and out of trouble. He further noted that it was in a bid to keep them out of many vices bedeviling the youth of today the he sponsored Gburugburu Cup to promote healthy competition among them.
Cross-section of benefitiaries
He paid glowing tribute to Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor of Enugu State whom he described as a humble servant leader that cared for everybody, urging them to always strongly support every programme of his government.
“Your prayers for me are being answered, they are working. That is why today, we are here again in honour of my late mother, N’okarigwe, the reason for our coming together.
“This is going to be an annual event for you and I to celebrate God for making me a symbol of hope, and I pray for your children to do as I am doing and even more.
Benefitiaries
“I implore you to support our dear governor, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, a humble servant leader, at all times so that he will be able to do more.
Addressing the people, the governor of Enugu State who spoke through the Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development, Princess Peace Nnaji, represented by one of the Directors in the Ministry, Mrs Esther Mba, said that the philanthropic gestures of Hon. Martin Agbo were wonderful and worthy of emulation, noting that God should strengthen him to be able to do more to impact on the lives of the less privileged in the area and beyond.

A lot of youth, women and widows from Nkanu East Local Government Area especially from Amankanu, Owo, Ubahu Umuode, Amechi-Idodo and Oruku were handsomely gifted with a lot of materials including food items, clothing and many more.
Speaking to GMTNews, Ngozi Aniowo, said she was so happy because “this is the first time I am benefiting from the programme. Since the death of my husband it has been so difficult for me to feed, but these items given to me today by Global will go a long way in sustaining me and my family”. She prayed God to bless Chief Agbo and his family, adding that the source through which they provided the items should be replenished.

Blessing, another beneficiary, said she never witnessed this type of gesture extended to the less privileged. She said “my name is Blessing Nnamani. I am not from Enugu State but I am married to this Ubahu. Before leaving my state for marriage here, I have never witnessed this type of gesture towards the less privileged. It is not the first time that he is doing it. According to Biblical injunction, givers we are meant to understand never lack, so as he has given to us, he will receive abundantly. God will bless him.”

In the finals of the Gburugburu Unity Football Competition between the Golden Boys FC and the Young Stars FC played at the community school football field, the Golden Boys carried the day by defeating their opponents by 5 goals to 2 on penalty shootout.
Handing over the soccer trophy 🏆 to the 2022 champions, the Golden Boys, the Enugu East Zonal Chairman of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Nnamdi Nwafor congratulated them for emerging victorious, and urged them to keep out of illicit substances (mkpuru mmiri) and other criminal activities.
