IPAC has described the ADC leadership judgment nullifying the Senator David Mark-led executive as shocking and expressed hope that the Court of Appeal will overturn the ruling.
The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has described the Federal High Court judgment nullifying the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as shocking, expressing concern over its timing ahead of the 2027 general elections.
IPAC National Publicity Secretary, Martins Egbeola, made this known on Friday, November 6, 2026, while reacting to the judgment in Abuja.
The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, had on Thursday nullified the leadership of the ADC and invalidated all decisions taken by the party under Mark’s leadership.
Reacting, Egbeola said the ruling came at a critical period when political parties had commenced election campaigns and presidential candidates were engaging Nigerians with their manifestos and policy alternatives ahead of the 2027 polls.
He described the judgment as particularly concerning given its potential implications for the party and the wider democratic process.
“This judgment is quite shocking, particularly given that political parties are already in campaign mode, with presidential candidates across the country engaging Nigerians and presenting their manifestos and policy alternatives, ahead of the general elections,” he said.
However, Egbeola expressed optimism that the Court of Appeal would overturn the ruling, warning that allowing it to stand could have far-reaching consequences for the ADC, its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his supporters and Nigeria’s democratic process.
“We are, however, hopeful that the judgment will be overturned by the Court of Appeal, considering the far-reaching implications it could have for ADC, its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his supporters and the broader democratic process if allowed to stand,” he said.
The IPAC spokesperson also called for a speedy and conclusive resolution of the prolonged legal disputes and leadership crisis within the ADC to end the uncertainty surrounding the party.
Egbeola maintained that no political party should be subjected to prolonged uncertainty and unnecessary distractions, particularly with less than three months remaining before the general elections.
“No political party should be subjected to such prolonged uncertainty and needless distractions, especially with less than three months to the general elections,” he said.
