Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State, neutralised six insurgents in a precision drone strike, arrested seven suspected terrorist collaborators in Benue and uncovered three illegal crude oil refining sites in Rivers State.
The operations, conducted across several military theatres, also included an intervention by troops in a farmers-herders clash in Plateau State to prevent further violence and possible reprisal attacks.
According to an operational report made available to journalists on Sunday, troops of the 151 Task Force Battalion at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State repelled an ISWAP attack on October 29.
The report said the terrorists launched the assault at about 9:05 p.m. but were forced to retreat following an exchange of gunfire with the troops.
The soldiers subsequently recovered one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bomb, one machine gun solenoid, an AK-47 magazine and 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
In a separate operation, troops of the Nigerian Army Landing Craft (NBLC), working alongside the 403 Amphibious Brigade, neutralised six terrorists during a precision drone strike on an insurgent enclave in Dumba, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation was conducted on October 30 following intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions that identified the location of the terrorists.
Preliminary battle damage assessment indicated that six terrorists were killed, while several others sustained injuries.
The military said further assessment was ongoing to determine the full impact of the aerial operation.
In Benue State, troops of Sector 1, Operation WHIRL STROKE, working with local vigilantes, arrested seven suspected terrorist collaborators at Agu Centre, Ugande, in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
The suspects were apprehended at about 10:35 a.m. on October 30 and taken into custody for further investigation.
Meanwhile, troops of the 103 Battalion (Main), operating under the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, uncovered three illegal crude oil refining sites in Okarki Forest, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The operation, conducted on October 30, led to the discovery of three drum ovens, three coolants, a reservoir, a plastic bucket, three pipes measuring approximately 20 metres and 81 sacks containing suspected stolen crude oil.
The military estimated the quantity of recovered crude oil at 4,212 litres, adding that the discovered items were handled in accordance with established regulations.
In Plateau State, troops of Sector 5, Operation ENDURING PEACE, intervened in a clash between farmers and herders at Malul Village in Bokkos Local Government Area on October 31.
According to the report, the confrontation occurred when herders allegedly attempted to gain access to farmland while farmers were harvesting their crops.
Troops subsequently strengthened their presence in the area to prevent further confrontations and possible reprisal attacks.
The military said the operations demonstrated its continued efforts across various operational theatres to combat terrorism, criminal activities, economic sabotage and other security threats across the country.
