CAIDOV has urged INEC to ensure credible 2027 elections, calling for transparent result transmission, impartial security agencies, voter education and an end to electoral irregularities.

The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the wishes of Nigerians prevail in the 2027 general elections through transparent, credible and accountable electoral processes.

The Executive Director of CAIDOV, Mr Gbenga Soloki, made the call in an interview with journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

Soloki said the forthcoming elections must address the flaws, irregularities and alleged manipulations associated with previous electoral exercises, stressing that Nigerians deserved a democratic process in which every valid vote counts.

“Let the wishes of the people prevail during the 2027 general elections. This is our warning to INEC,” he said.

The human rights activist expressed concern over electoral fraud, vote-buying, voter intimidation, result falsification and technical failures, which he alleged had undermined the credibility of elections in the country.

He urged INEC to restore public confidence through early preparations, transparent recruitment and adequate training of ad hoc electoral staff, as well as the effective deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

Soloki also called for the real-time electronic transmission of results from polling units, saying the measure would strengthen transparency and public trust in the electoral process.

He maintained that electoral irregularities, including delayed arrival of voting materials, over-voting, ballot box snatching, inconclusive elections and discrepancies between polling unit results and announced figures, must be addressed ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to him, INEC must demonstrate independence and impartiality in the discharge of its responsibilities.

Soloki also appealed to security agencies to remain neutral and professional before, during and after the elections, warning against voter intimidation and disruptions, particularly in areas considered opposition strongholds.

He urged political parties and candidates to avoid electoral violence, hate speech, ethnic prejudice and religious intolerance, while prioritising issue-based campaigns.

The CAIDOV director further challenged politicians to present practical solutions to the challenges of hunger, insecurity, unemployment and economic hardship facing Nigerians.

He called on youths, women and other eligible voters to participate actively in the electoral process and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them to exercise their voting rights.

Soloki warned against vote-buying, describing it as a practice that undermines citizens’ ability to demand accountability from elected officials.

“Vote-buying is mortgaging your future. If you sell your vote, you have sold your right to demand good governance. Nigerians must vote their conscience in 2027,” he said.

He assured that CAIDOV, as a human rights and pro-democracy organisation, would intensify voter education and deploy election observers nationwide to monitor the 2027 general elections.

The organisation said its planned activities would focus on promoting voter awareness, monitoring electoral conduct and encouraging greater participation in the democratic process.
