Dankwambo has rejected his reported inclusion in the Gombe APC campaign council, with the PDP describing the state-level list as fake amid confusion over his political affiliation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has rejected his reported inclusion in the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council in Gombe State, describing the development as unauthorised, amid controversy over a list circulating ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Gombe State governor and serving senator reportedly had his name included in the state’s APC campaign structure, prompting questions about his political allegiance. However, the Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the state-level list as fake, saying the senator was unaware of the alleged appointment.
In a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, the PDP urged its members, supporters and stakeholders to disregard the publication, alleging that it was intended to mislead party members and create confusion ahead of the elections.
Dankwambo’s media aide, Hussain Ali Muhammed, also reportedly said the senator did not authorise anyone to associate his name with the Gombe APC campaign council. The aide called for an explanation from those responsible for publishing the list.
However, the controversy must be distinguished from a separate development at the national level. On October 13, 2026, Channels Television and Vanguard reported that Dankwambo had been named an adviser to the APC’s revised Presidential Campaign Council for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. That national list also included other politicians associated with opposition parties.
The two developments should not be conflated: Dankwambo’s reported appearance on the national presidential campaign council is documented in media reports, while the PDP has disputed his inclusion in the Gombe State campaign structure. His reported inclusion on either list does not, by itself, establish that he has defected from the PDP.
The circumstances surrounding the state-level listing have therefore raised questions about how his name came to be associated with the APC campaign council. An official explanation from the relevant party authorities would help clarify the discrepancy and establish the status of the disputed list.
