Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke rescue six kidnapped victims near Gbise in Benue and intensify intelligence-led operations to track the suspected kidnappers.
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (JTF OPWS), have rescued six kidnapped victims around Gbise community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Acting Media Information Officer of the task force, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this on Saturday in a statement made available to journalists in Makurdi.
Zubairu said the victims were rescued on September 25 after troops, acting on credible intelligence about their whereabouts, mobilised to the area during a patrol.
He said the victims were evacuated to a secure location for their safety and further necessary action.
The rescued persons were identified as Gabriel Enujuba, 50; Samson Magbo, 43; Alkasim Modu, 27; Manzo Bello, 27; Sani Abdullahi, 25; and Munza Yusuf, 25.
According to the military, preliminary investigations revealed that five of the victims were abducted along the Chenchengi-Takum Road.
The sixth victim, Yusuf, reportedly told investigators that he was kidnapped from his residence in the Ahmadu General area of Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Zubairu said troops had intensified intelligence-led operations and patrols to locate and apprehend members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate responsible for the abductions.
He added that the task force was strengthening its human intelligence network to identify and track criminal suspects, while denying them freedom to operate in vulnerable communities and along major routes.
The media officer urged troops to remain proactive, vigilant and responsive to emerging security threats.
He reaffirmed Operation Whirl Stroke’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and protecting lives and property across its Joint Operations Area.
The task force, he said, would sustain its operations to help create a secure environment for residents, farmers, commuters and other law-abiding citizens.
