Mike Ogbuekwe has been declared winner of the Nkanu East chairmanship election after the September 26, 2026 council poll.
ENUGU — Hon. Mike Chikosolu Ogbuekwe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the Nkanu East Local Government chairmanship election held on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Ogbuekwe was formally declared at the Nkanu East Local Government Area headquarters by the representative of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), according to a statement from the Mmirioma Media.
The declaration brings to an end the electoral contest in Nkanu East after weeks of campaign activities, during which Ogbuekwe and his team visited communities and wards across the local government, engaging political stakeholders, community leaders, youths and residents.
The APC candidate had emerged as the party’s flag bearer after its direct primary ahead of the September 26 council election.
In his post-election message, Ogbuekwe described the moment his name was declared as a deeply emotional and unforgettable experience, reflecting on the campaigns, meetings, travels, challenges, prayers and support that characterised the election period.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his leadership and support and thanked God and the people of Nkanu East for the confidence reposed in him.
“I do not take this responsibility for granted,” Ogbuekwe said.
The declaration now shifts attention from the election campaign to the responsibilities of governance, with residents across the 14 wards of Nkanu East expecting the incoming administration to address local priorities and deliver on campaign commitments.
Ogbuekwe had, during the campaign, spoken about aligning the council with the broader development agenda of the Enugu State Government, while highlighting issues including roads, electricity, security and other community infrastructure.
His campaign also included engagements across communities such as Nkerefi, Nara, Mburumbu, Nomeh, Ugbawka, Ihuokpara and Isienu/Akpawfu ahead of the poll.
With the election formally concluded and the result declared, the focus will now move to the transition from campaign promises to the administration of the local government.
For Ogbuekwe, the declaration marks the beginning of a new phase in which the mandate announced by ENSIEC will translate into the practical responsibilities of public office and grassroots governance.
