Delta Police have intensified a manhunt for two suspected armed robbers who attacked a 48-year-old man in Effurun and fled after abandoning a damaged firearm.
The Delta State Police Command has intensified its manhunt for two suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked a 48-year-old man at his residence in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects reportedly fled after the victim confronted one of them and wrestled with him, resulting in the damage of the locally made firearm they allegedly brought to the scene.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in the Charlisco area along the NPA Express Road in Effurun at about 5:30 a.m. on September 4, 2026.
Edafe said two masked suspects, armed with a locally made shotgun, allegedly broke into the victim’s residence.
The 48-year-old victim reportedly confronted the suspect carrying the firearm and wrestled with him, during which the gun was damaged.
The second suspect allegedly struck the victim on the forehead before both suspects fled the scene, abandoning the damaged firearm.
The incident was subsequently reported at the Ekpan Police Division, prompting the immediate deployment of operatives to the scene.
Police recovered the damaged locally made firearm, while the victim was referred to a hospital for medical treatment.
“The victim was referred to a hospital for treatment, while a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is in top gear,” Edafe said.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, commended the victim for his courage and assured residents that the suspects would be tracked down and arrested.
Erale also appealed to members of the public to provide timely and credible information that could assist the police in preventing and tackling crime across the state.
