The suspects comprise 12 men and 10 women, according to the Deputy Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Dr Mujahedeen Aminudeen.
Aminudeen disclosed the arrests while speaking with journalists in Kano on Saturday, September 6, 2026.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that most of the suspects were allegedly involved in drug abuse.
According to the Hisbah official, some of the male suspects were alleged to have displayed effeminate characteristics, while the women were suspected of engaging in sex work.
However, investigations into the allegations are still ongoing, and no court has yet determined the guilt of the suspects.
Aminudeen said the board would conclude its investigation and prosecute any suspect found to have committed an offence before a court of competent jurisdiction.
He warned individuals planning to enter Kano State to engage in activities considered illegal or contrary to the state’s moral regulations to desist.
The deputy commander-general said Hisbah personnel remained prepared to take action against individuals found to be violating applicable laws.
“We are ready to arrest and prosecute offenders,” he said, according to reports of the briefing.
Aminudeen also called on parents and guardians to take greater responsibility for the upbringing of their children.
He said proper guidance and character development were important to helping young people build responsible futures and avoid harmful activities.
The arrests come amid continued enforcement operations by the Kano State Hisbah Board against activities the agency considers to violate the state’s moral and legal regulations.
The board said investigations into the latest case were ongoing, while the next legal steps would depend on the outcome of the investigation.
