The Southeast Aviation Summit and Eastwing Youth Competition (SASEYC) 2026 has been rescheduled from September 26 to October 3, 2026, with the Royal Father of the Day, HRM Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, endorsing the initiative and pledging his support.
The organisers announced the new date during a courtesy visit by the SASEYC team to Igwe Agubuzu, a former Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and former Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The visit was organised through the Eastwing Youth Foundation, the non-profit arm of the Eastwing Aviation Institute, which is spearheading the youth-focused aviation initiative.
Speaking during the visit, Igwe Agubuzu urged young people to take advantage of the summit and similar opportunities to acquire practical and specialised skills capable of preparing them for meaningful careers.
The traditional ruler noted that while formal education remains important, young people should look beyond academic certificates and focus on developing competencies that can address real-world challenges.
He emphasised the importance of competence and precision in the aviation industry, stressing that the sector requires highly trained professionals because aviation directly involves human lives.
“You need to become an expert in your chosen field. Get proper training. Obtain recognised certificates,” he advised, while encouraging young people to continuously develop themselves and become highly skilled.
Igwe Agubuzu further encouraged aspiring aviation professionals to learn from experienced practitioners and industry veterans, noting that mentorship and continuous learning can help young people build successful careers.
He said the global nature of aviation means properly trained and qualified professionals can find opportunities beyond geographical, ethnic or religious boundaries.
According to him, airlines and aircraft owners are primarily interested in competent professionals capable of meeting the technical and operational demands of the industry.
The SASEYC 2026 initiative is designed to introduce young people to aviation and related career opportunities through training, mentorship, competitions and exposure to international learning opportunities.
As part of its international collaboration, the organisers have partnered with Sofema Aviation Academy in Bulgaria to provide participants with access to professional aviation courses.
The summit is expected to bring together young people, aviation professionals, industry veterans and other stakeholders to discuss opportunities within the aviation sector and help participants better understand the skills and qualifications required to build careers in the industry.
The Eastwing Youth Foundation said the programme is particularly focused on helping young people identify viable career pathways and gain access to specialised knowledge that can improve their prospects in the aviation sector.
With the summit now scheduled for October 3, 2026, the organisers are calling on young people across the Southeast and beyond to participate, interact with aviation professionals and take advantage of the learning and mentorship opportunities available through SASEYC.
The organisers said the initiative is ultimately aimed at inspiring a new generation of skilled aviation professionals while connecting young people with opportunities capable of shaping their future careers.
